Bangladesh Captain in All Formats Is Najmul Hossain Shanto

Due to uncertainty surrounding the availability of regular choice Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh reappointed Najmul Hossain Shanto as national cricket captain for all three forms for the next year on Monday.

The 25-year-old top-order batsman Najmul guided Bangladesh through their past two home and away series against New Zealand, but it was anticipated that he would pass the reins to Shakib.

“Obviously, we wanted to avoid any uncertainty as our captain, but Shakib was our first choice,” Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hassan told reporters.

Nazmul brought up Shakib’s eye issue from the World Cup in India last year, which compelled him to go to Singapore and Britain for treatment.

Due to the problem, Shakib was also unable to play in many matches in the present Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20.

This year, Bangladesh will participate in 21 Twenty20 internationals, including the Twenty20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies, nine One-Day Internationals, and at least 14 Test matches.

Gazi Ashraf Hossain, a former national captain, was named head selector by the BCB.

In their upcoming series, Bangladesh will play three Twenty20 Internationals, three Tests, and three ODIs against Sri Lanka in March and April.

Bangladesh’s most recent matches against New Zealand ended in a 2-1 defeat in an ODI series and a 1-1 draw in a T20I series.
